Job Objective/Summary:
The Underwriter will assess the risk of insuring a person or company according to the likelihood of a claim being made. He/She will strike and maintain a balance between attracting and retaining customers through competitive insurance premiums and being able to cover any potential losses from claims.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Underwriter would assist in doing the following:
- Review insurance applications for compliance and adherence.
- Liaise with the Senior Underwriter and specialist to gather information and opinions.
- Draw up quotes for competitive insurance premiums.
- Negotiate and define the specific terms of insurance with policyholders and partners.
- Balance between mass and homogeneity of risks to predict future risk.
- Follow applicable insurance laws.
Job Requirements:
- HND/BSc in Insurance or related field.
- Two years of work experience in life assurance underwriting and rating.
- Experience in Insurance Indemnity is considered an additional advantage
- Excellent knowledge of insurance policies and ability to relate policy provisions to the loss exposure.
- Confident decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of statistical packages.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
