UNDERWRITER

Job Objective/Summary:

The Underwriter will assess the risk of insuring a person or company according to the likelihood of a claim being made. He/She will strike and maintain a balance between attracting and retaining customers through competitive insurance premiums and being able to cover any potential losses from claims.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Underwriter would assist in doing the following:

  • Review insurance applications for compliance and adherence.
  • Liaise with the Senior Underwriter and specialist to gather information and opinions.
  • Draw up quotes for competitive insurance premiums.
  • Negotiate and define the specific terms of insurance with policyholders and partners.
  • Balance between mass and homogeneity of risks to predict future risk.
  • Follow applicable insurance laws.

Job Requirements:

  1. HND/BSc in Insurance or related field.
  2. Two years of work experience in life assurance underwriting and rating.
  3. Experience in Insurance Indemnity is considered an additional advantage
  4. Excellent knowledge of insurance policies and ability to relate policy provisions to the loss exposure.
  5. Confident decision-making skills.
  6. Knowledge of statistical packages.
  7. Ability to work independently and in a team.
