 Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager to oversee all tax-related activities within our Microfinance Bank. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing relationships with tax authorities and ensuring full compliance with all applicable tax regulations, while optimizing tax processes for efficiency and risk mitigation.

 Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure full compliance with all applicable tax laws and finance acts (CIT, EDT, PAYE, WHT, VAT, TP, CRS, etc.)
  2. Monitor and ensure timely payment of all taxes to relevant government authorities
  3. Ensure accurate deduction of taxes from applicable transactions
  4. Coordinate tax audits and supervise all tax-related functions across the organization
  5. Identify opportunities within tax laws to optimize the Bank’s tax position
  6. Implement processes for timely filing of annual tax returns (PAYE and Company Income Tax)
  7. Review tax accruals (PAYE, WHT, CIT) in the general ledger and reconcile with schedules
  8. Conduct year-end tax accrual reviews and prepare tax provisions with supporting documentation
  9. Collaborate with the Payroll Unit to ensure accurate tax deductions
  10. Handle all tax-related information requests, including processing tax clearance certificates
  11. Improve tax processes by implementing best practices
  12. Identify, assess, and mitigate tax risks
  13. Provide strategic and innovative tax planning for the Bank and its employees
  14. Ensure timely response to tax queries, demand notices, and official correspondence
  15. Oversee remittance of WHT and VAT to relevant authorities
  16. Provide monthly updates on tax matters affecting the organization

 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely preparation and submission of tax reports and returns
  • Prompt response to queries from tax authorities
  • Zero or minimal financial exposure due to tax-related errors or negligence
  • Accuracy and timeliness of tax remittances

 Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting or related field
  • Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is required
  • MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the banking sector, preferably in a tax or finance role

 Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
  • Sound knowledge of financial management best practices
  • Familiarity with accounting software/packages
  • In-depth knowledge of current tax laws and regulations
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks within the financial sector
  • Awareness of local and global economic and industry trends
